Dit bestand toont de internationaal belangrijke waterrijke gebieden die bij het Koninklijk Besluit van 27/09/1984 werden aangeduid en erkend als Ramsar-gebied conform de Ramsar-Conventie dat in 1971 in Ramsar (Iran) werd opgesteld en in 1975 van kracht ging en door de Vlaamse Executieve op 27/05/1987 werden gewijzigd. Het selecteren en aanduiden van een Ramsar-gebied berust op de aanwezigheid van watervogels, biodiversiteit en vispopulaties.
